Exton|OS 64 bit – based on Ubuntu 19.04 – with Budgie Desktop 10.5, Refracta Snapshot, Calamares Installer and kernel 5.1.3-exton – Build 190521

NEWS 190521 ABOUT Exton|OS with Budgie Desktop 10.5 and Refracta Snapshot
The Desktop Environment in this Exton|OS build is Budgie 10.5. (Budgie is focused on simplicity an elegance. Designed with the modern user in mind). Program content in build 190521: Refracta Snapshot, Calamares 3.2.4, Firefox, Gimp, SMPlayer, SMTube, and GParted. Also all necessary additions in order to install programs from source. Calamares is an installer framework. By design it is very customizable, in order to satisfy a wide variety of needs and use cases. Kernel 5.1.3-exton (corresponding Kernel.org‘s latest kernel 5.1.3) is used. You can download “my” kernel and install it in newer Ubuntu/Debian systems (if you want). All packages have been updated to the latest available version as at May 21, 2019 Study the NEW PACKAGE list. Google Chrome has been removed since it’s now possible to use Netflix in Firefox. Using Refracta Snapshot you can change everything to your liking and create your own live installable Ubuntu system. I mean create your own installable Ubuntu 19.04 Live DVD once you have installed Exton|OS to hard drive.

MOST IMPORTANT CHANGES IN BUILD 190521
1. This Exton|OS version is for non-efi computers, which means that you can use the Calamares Installer in VirtualBox/VMware and thus install Exton|OS in any language. You can even use Calamares for installation to a USB stick and that way get persistence. Please read my instruction before you perform such an installation. Calamares Installer replaces Ubiquity (Ubuntu’s installer). Calamares Installer is also very simple to use. No “expert knowledge” is needed.
2. A brand new kernel – 5.1.3 – is used.
3. The very nice icon theme Papirus is installed and used.
I haven’t changed the wallpapers since it’s hard to find nicer ones.

WHAT’S NEW in kernel 5.1?

ExTiX 19.5, Build 190508, with LXQt 0.14.1, Kodi 19 “Matrix”, Refracta Snapshot, Nvidia 418.74 and kernel 5.1.0-exton

ExTiX 19.5 LXQt/Kodi – Build 190508
I have made a new version of ExTiX – The Ultimate Linux System. I call it ExTiX 19.5 LXQt/Kodi Live DVD. (The previous LXQt version was 19.1.2 from 190102). The best thing with ExTiX 19.5 is that while running the system live (from DVD/USB) or from hard drive you can use Refracta Snapshot (pre-installed) to create your own live installable Ubuntu system. So easy that a ten year child can do it! As an alternative to LXQt you can run Kodi 19 ALPHA1 Matrix . Just start Kodi like any other program while logged in to the LXQt Desktop as the ordinary user live. I have enabled a few addons in Kodi. Most important the Netflix addon. One other very good thing with this version of ExTiX is that it is quite light. The ISO file is of only 1220 MB, which means that you can run the system superfast from RAM. When the boot process is ready you can eject the DVD or USB stick. Use Boot alternative 2 or Advanced options… >> load to RAM.

ExTiX 19.5 LXQt/Kodi DVD 64 bit is based on Debian and Ubuntu 19.04. The original system includes the Desktop Environment Gnome. After removing Gnome I have installed LXQt 0.14.1. LXQt is the Qt port and the upcoming version of LXDE, the Lightweight Desktop Environment. It is the product of the merge between the LXDE-Qt and the Razor-qt projects: A lightweight, modular, blazing-fast and user-friendly desktop environment. I have also installed Kodi 19 Matrix with some addons already enabled. Most important Netflix, Plex and Amazon Video addons. NOTE: This ExTiX LXQt Build is for installation to UEFI-enabled computers. You shall use Refracta Installer for that.

The system language is ENGLISH.

WHAT’S SO SPECIAL about ExTiX and especially the new version from 190508?
1. The ExTiX ISO’s are ISO-hybrids, which means that they can very easily be transferred (copied) to a USB pen drive. You can even run ExTiX from the USB stick and save all your system changes on the stick. I.e. you will enjoy persistence!
2. Another big improvement is that both ExTiX versions can run from RAM. Use Boot alternative 2 (load to RAM). When the system has booted up you can remove the disc (DVD) or USB stick. You’ll need at least 2 GB RAM to run ExTiX that way. Running from RAM means that the system will run faster than from a DVD or a USB stick. Everything will be superfast I would say! Especially since the ISO file is of only 1220 MB!
3. ExTiX LXQt is now more stable than ever. All packages have been upgraded to the latest version by 190508.
4. I’ve replaced kernel 4.20.0-extix with kernel 5.1.0-exton. Kernel 5.1 is the latest kernel by 190508. (Released 190506).
5. I have replaced Ubuntu’s installation program Ubiquity (live installer) with Refracta Installer. It works very well. I.e. a new user (your user) will be created during the installation process and you’ll get a chance to change root’s password. Just start the installer from the menu under System.
6. The best thing with ExTiX 19.5 is that while running the system live (from DVD/USB) or from hard drive you can use Refracta Snapshot (pre-installed) to create your own live installable Ubuntu system.
7. As an alternative to LXQt you can run Kodi 19 Matrix . Just start Kodi like any other program while logged in to the LXQt Desktop as the ordinary user live. I have enabled a few addons in Kodi. Most important the Netflix addon. NOTE: You can’t run Kodi as root. (You won’t have sound).
8. Nvidia proprietary Graphics driver 418.74 is pre-installed in ExTiX 19.5. It will be used automatically if your computer has support for it.

The importance of Kodi 19 being in ALPHA level

I don’t think you will notice anything special. I.e. addons won’t crash or anything like that. Please tell me if you have any problems when running Kodi.

RaspAnd Pie 9 for Raspberry Pi 3 B and B+ :: Build 190429 :: with Google Chrome, YouTube, Evie Launcher, Yalp Store and Aptoide App Manager. All working very well!

ABOUT RaspAnd Pie 9 – a new extra build 190429
RaspAnd Pie 9 runs very well on a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B and 3 Model B+. I.e. the system is pretty responsive if you use a micro SD card of good quality. RaspAnd Pie Build 190429 has the following apps pre-installed: Google Chrome, Yalp Store, Aptoide App Manager, Aida64, Rotation Control, Evie Launcher, Termux and ES File Explorer. Unfortunately not Google Play Store, but Yalp Store and Aptoide work as good replacements for it.

ABOUT Android Pie 9, which was released 180806…

Differences
My first RaspAnd Pie Build is from 190315. In Build 190429 I’ve added Yalp Store and replaced Nova Launcher with Evie Launcher.

About Yalp Store
Yalp Store lets you download apps directly from Google Play Store as apk files. It can search for updates of installed apps and lets you search for other apps. The point of Yalp Store is to be small and independent from Google Services Framework. By default Yalp Store connects to Google services using a built-in account, so you do not have to own a Google account to use it. The only reason to use a live Google account is to access the paid apps you own or leave reviews. So Yalp Store works as a pretty good replacement for Google Play Store. I think.

About Evie Launcher

Evie Launcher works very well in RaspAnd Pie.

Android-x86_64 Pie 9.0 with Pie Launcher, Yalp Store, Aptoide App Manager, Netflix, Spotify and Firefox with YouTube – Build 190426

NEWS 190426 about a new extra version of AndEX Pie 9.0
My new build of Android x86_64 – andex-x86_64-pie-9.0-aptoide-netflix-spotify-1610mb-190426.iso can be installed to hard drive or on a USB stick. You can also run the system live. I.e. from a DVD or a USB stick. On some computers you’ll have to start up AndEX 9.0 in compatibility mode (VESA) though. The sound and video performance is generally very very good. Yalp Store and Aptoide App Manager work very well in this build of AndEX Pie. So does the Netflix and Spotify app. I have unfortunately not been able to install Google Play Store and other GAPPS. Yalp Store and Aptoide work as good replacements for Google Play Store though. This new version of AndEX Pie (build 190426) run somewhat faster and is a bit more responsive than the “old” version (build 190326) of AndEX Pie. The new version looks better too since it uses Pie Launcher as Desktop environment.

I think.

MORE NEWS 190426 about AndEX Pie 9.0
My new build of Android-x86_64 Pie 9.0 have Yalp Store (see above) and Aptoide App Manager pre-installed. Also many other apps. For example: Netflix, Spotify, ES File Explorer, AIDA64 and Firefox. YouTube works very well in Firefox.

MORE ABOUT AndEX Pie
My new compiled Android-x86_64 system (Pie 9.0) can run and be installed on almost all newer laptops (and some Desktop computers). For example Acer (Aspire), HP, Samsung, Dell, Toshiba, Lenovo, Thinkpad, Fujitsu, Panasonic and Asus laptops. You can (of course) also run AndEX in VirtualBox and/or VMware. I can also mention that I could run my new Pie version without problems on a HP Pavilion 500-317no Desktop Computer. You can very easy do a manual installation to hard drive. That can also be done to a drive where you already have another Linux system (for example Ubuntu 19.04) installed. Read more about how to install AndEX Pie at the main site about AndEX Pie.

I’ve released a new version of ExTiX Deepin today (190419). This ExTiX Build is based on Deepin 15.9.3 (not yet officially released by Deepin Technology).
NEW FUNCTIONS etc:
1. The ISO has decreased from 1860 MB to 1560 MB, which makes it easier to run ExTiX from RAM. Use boot alternative 3 (load to RAM) or Advanced.  A wonderful way to run Linux if you have enough RAM. Everything will be super fast. When ExTiX has booted up you can remove the DVD or USB stick.
2. You will have the opportunity to choose language before you enter the Deepin 15.9.3 Desktop. All main languages are supported.
3. I have replaced Deepin Installer with the Reborn version of Deepin Installer. Better in every way.
4. I have replaced kernel 5.0.7 with kernel 5.0.8 (5.0.8-extix), which was released 190417.

NEWS 190416 ABOUT ExTiX Deepin 19.4
I’ve released a new version of ExTiX Deepin today with Refracta Snapshot and kernel 5.0.7-extix. Deepin 15.9.2 (latest version) is made in China. Deepin is devoted to providing a beautiful, easy to use, safe and reliable system for global users. Previous versions of ExTiX Deepin were based on Debian and Ubuntu. ExTiX 19.4 is a live build of Deepin 15.9.2 BETA, which is based on Debian unstable. All packages have been updated to the latest available version as of today. Study all installed packages in ExTiX Deepin 19.4 Build 190416. So ExTiX 19.4 is based on Deepin 15.9.2 BETA and Debian unstable. I may add that there is no other live version of Deepin 15.9.2.

Replacement
ExTiX Deepin 19.4 replaces ExTiX 19.0 and ExTiX 18.8.

The Ultimate Linux System
I’ve called my different versions of ExTiX The Ultimate Linux System for many years by now. As regards ExTiX 19.4 Deepin I feel it’s especially justified. Everything just works.

Refracta Snapshot
While running ExTiX Deepin 19.4 live or from hard drive you can use Refracta Snapshot (pre-installed) to create your own live installable Deepin/Debian system. A ten year child can do it!

DebEX KDE Plasma based on Debian testing/unstable with kernel 5.0.6-exton (latest) and Calamares Installer – “the real McCoy” – Build 190407

Created with GIMP

NEWS 190407 about DebEX KDE Plasma – a Refracta Build
I have made a new version of DebEX KDE Plasma Live DVDefi. It replaces version 180814. It’s a pure Debian system. (Unstable/Experimental). I.e.: There are no Ubuntu or Kubuntu elements involved. DebEX KDE Plasma uses the KDE Plasma Desktop 5:14 as Desktop environment. Kernel 5.0.6-exton (5.0.6) is used. I have replaced Wicd with NetworkManager. It works better. I have replaced Google Chrome with Iceweasel 52.9 (for Netflix). I’ve also added SMPlayer – an alternative to Vlc. (SMPlayer is a free media player for Windows and Linux with built-in codecs that can play virtually all video and audio formats. It doesn’t need any external codecs. Just install SMPlayer and you’ll be able to play all formats without the hassle to find and install codec packs). All other installed packages have also been updated to the latest version of 190407. Study the full package list. MOST IMPORTANT CHANGE: I have replaced Refracta Installer with Calamares 3.2.4-4 Installer Framework. Now you can choose language when the installation starts. When it’s ready everything will be in your chosen language! You can even use Calamares in VirtualBox and VMware – i.e. non-efi computers if you follow my INSTRUCTION for non-efi computers.

PuppEX Bionic 64 bit, uefi, compatible with Ubuntu 18.04 :: Build 190330

ABOUT PuppEX Bionic Build 190330
My newest Puppy derivative is built from Puppy Linux 8.0 BionicPup 64 bit. I have added Google Chrome (for Netflix), PCManFM, LXTerminal and many development tools. I have also compiled a new kernel – 5.0.5-puppex. Kernel 5.0.5 is the latest stable kernel available from Kernel.org as of 190330. Furthermore I have installed Nvidia’s Proprietary Graphics driver 418.56. The Nvidia driver will be used if your computer/card is “good/modern” enough. If not automatically just open up a terminal and run the command nvidia-xconfig. Then restart X. Note: Firefox can’t be used in Puppy Linux. You won’t have sound.

PuppEX Bionic64 is compatible with Ubuntu 18.04, which means that Ubuntu packages for Ubuntu 18.04 can be installed and used in PuppEX. The PuppEX Bionic ISO is of 827 MB.

Performance
Puppy Bionic64 original is of only 354 MB. PuppEX Bionic64 is despite this still running as fast as the original, which means it runs very, very fast compared to most other Linux systems. (Puppy/PuppEX runs from RAM).
